Our History

The Catalyzing Access to Research and Equity Representation Group was founded in Spring 2022.

A small group of life science and public health professionals assembled to discuss their ongoing frustration with inequities in healthcare, which are experienced by women and people of color in the United States.

The group initially has focused on clinical trial diversity, though we recognize that clinical trial access and participation is only a piece of the broader issue.  It is important to note that other health disparities will also need to be addressed, in order to change the status quo.

The founding members of the group felt strongly that raising awareness and sharing ideas was important, and formed the CARER Group to take action.  CARER Group is intended to be a results-oriented organization, creating actionable initiatives and executing on our plans.  Our highest goal is to improve access and representation in health research, which will in turn improve health outcomes for all people.

CARER Group has grown to include approximately 15 members.  Our initial focus is on the lack of diversity in clinical trials.  This problem not only impacts the US economy (costing billions of dollars a year in early death and poor health) but more importantly, it perpetuates inequality.

Without diversity, we fail to collect critical information regarding the safety and efficacy of medications for a large segment of the population, for whom the medications will eventually need to be prescribed.  CARER Group aims to help remove barriers to health access and build trust with disenfranchised populations.
